Quarterly Report of Tung Wa

Hospital.

Oct.1st. to Decr.31st.,1897.

Tung Wa Hospital.

Hong-Kong, 8th. January, 1898.

I have the honour to report for the informa-

tion of the Government regarding the work of the Tung Wa

Hospital during the three months 1st. October to 31st. Dec em- ber,1 1897.

The most noteworthy event of the quarter has

been the introduction of the use of Quinine in the treat-

ment of all cases of Malarial Fever that come to the Hospi

tal, whether nominally under foreign treatment or not. Early

in October I urged on the Directors the desirability of this

and obtained from them a promise to direct the use of it.

There existed, however, strong antagonistic feeling among

some of the native doctors, and the result was that the use

of the drug was intermittent and unsatisfactory. Finding

Dr. J.M. Atkinson,

this

Principal Medical Officer.
